Koi health disclaimer

Koi health pages are educational. They cannot replace diagnosis by a qualified fish veterinarian, aquatic animal health professional, or experienced local expert.

Educational use only

Health information on this site is provided for learning and prevention. It is not a diagnosis, prescription, or emergency treatment plan. Fish disease can progress quickly, and different problems can look similar from the surface.

When to seek professional help

  • Multiple koi decline at the same time.
  • There is sudden death, severe gill distress, deep ulcers, dropsy, or heavy bleeding.
  • KHV or another serious infectious disease is possible.
  • You are considering antibiotics, sedatives, injections, or strong chemical treatments.
  • Water quality is normal but the fish continue to worsen.

Medication caution

Always test water before treating. Ammonia, nitrite, unstable pH, low oxygen, chlorine/chloramine, overcrowding, and temperature stress can mimic disease. Medication used in poor water can make fish weaker and can damage filtration bacteria.

Responsibility

You are responsible for checking product labels, local laws, water volume, dose calculations, species suitability, and withdrawal/disposal guidance. When in doubt, stop moving fish, isolate affected fish when appropriate, improve oxygen, and consult a professional.
